The Web Whirlwind.

Written by Joe Seversway.
it's a picture of a whirlwind or tornado with various web tech names swirling in it.

So you’re ready for those Facts I promised you eh? Excellent! I thought I’d tell you how I keep up with the never-ending whirlwind of web tech advancement, as it can be (is) totally overwhelming.

The internet is everywhere, and is constantly expanding and evolving. There isn’t a day that goes by that there isn’t some new technology coming out or some update or something being made redundant. So how do you keep on top of it all? And where can you go to learn of the latest in dev, err, development!? Here are a few of the resources that I use to keep me at the cutting edge:

  • Youtube Probably the best of the lot really, literally hundreds of videos every day about all manner of web development developments. Some of the best channels to follow are:

-Traversy Media Tutorials on tons of web technologies as and when they are released, the original and the best!

-Kevin Powell The CSS Guru himself, releases videos weekly on all the latest CSS styles, trends and advancements.

-Matt Wolfe Although not technically developer news Matt is the best source on the web for all the latest on AI, which, let’s face it is the future of the web!

  • Smashing Magazine This long-running publication offers in-depth articles on new and emerging technologies, design patterns, and development techniques. Their front-end focused content is ideal for web devs.

  • CSS-Tricks For a regular dose of CSS tips, techniques, and trends, Chris Coyier’s CSS-Tricks site delivers. Easy to digest posts keep you on top of what’s new in styling and layout possibilities.

  • Mozilla Developer Network (MDN) MDN’s up-to-date web docs and tutorials straight from browser-maker Mozilla can’t be beat for actionable how-to’s on implementing modern web standards.

  • Web Designer News Curation of the latest web design news with links to tutorials, resources, and discussions. The active comments from readers provide helpful perspectives.

So there you go! By all means there are many other places to get your web dev news, but those are some good places to get started, I hope this can help a few of you keep pace with the tech tornado or technado!? I realise that this hasn’t been as frilly as some of my other blog posts so I will try to dole out some loaves of gumpf in my next edition! Tally pip!
